I completely agree with Christian's comments, espcially about using Gephi as a platform for implementing new Information Visualisation/Visual Analytics research ideas. I am an academic working on network visualisation research. I had ambitious goal to develop a 3D network visualisation platform based on Wilmascope/Geomi, which turned out to be not really practical as a personal project.

I also think we academics should support the developement of Gephi whatever way we can. This can be done by applying research funding for project that uses Gephi and also further develops it. This is what I am doing now. Another very easy way is to promote Gephi to let more academics aware of it.

Keep the good work coming!
